What constitutes the inner voice?

What constitutes the inner voice?

The next time your inner voice tells you that you’re not capable of something or something negative comes to your mind, think where does it originate from?

Your inner voice is a collective of
– your experiences
– your learning
– the people around you
– the information you consume
– your opinions of yourself
– the expectations of the society

Once you know this, ask yourself, can you trust your inner voice?

Moreover, it’s not about ignoring your voice.

The thought should be, if you don’t like your voice, what can you do about it?

With practice and self-awareness, you can change this voice if you don’t like it, make a more positive environment in your head, everything is possible if you want something to change.

All of this takes a lot of time, a lot of patience, and there will be a lot of setbacks as well. Every time you fall, you will feel like why are you even doing this?

But the more you stand still, the more you get back again, you will be able to push one step further, you will be able to look back and be glad you practiced with patience, because you will be satisfied with the outcome.

Starting your Day with a Message

Starting your Day with a Message

There are a ton of distractions throughout our day that makes us lose our focus and keep us occupied elsewhere.

Whenever you start your morning, instead of checking your messages/ emails/ notifications and focusing on what other people want you to focus on, how about you shift it to yourself?

How about you start your day with a message of gratitude that you’re alive, you get to live and conquer another day?

How about you plan your own day’s work instead of checking what other people are working on?

Changing your approach changes the tone of your day as well, it changes your perspective, your control, your focus over your day.

Focusing on yourself now gives you the power to choose what you want to focus on, what you want to spend time on and allows you to be in the moment.

Karma

Karma

We have all heard of the word, Karma in our lives, haven’t we?

We can believe in it or not, but we have definitely heard of it.

Now, belief is a different topic altogether and I’m not telling you to start believing in it after reading this today.

But, how about you look at the topic from a different perspective today.

First, let’s understand what Karma is and I’ll be sharing what I got from the internet, for better understanding.

Karma (/ˈkɑːrmə/; Sanskrit: कर्म, romanized: karma, IPA: [ˈkɐɽmɐ] ( listen); Pali: kamma) means action, work or deed; it also refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect).

In simple terms, the impact of your future is based on the kind of work you do today.

In another analogy, what you do is what you get.

Karma is then divided into three categories, and for better understanding, I’ll write it in simple English, without going into the details.

Your past actions have resulted into today’s karma – the life you live today.

Your work today affects the karma of tomorrow – the future.

And the future’s karma is based on your present and past actions.

How does it originate?

Karma originates from everything that you think, you do and speak. How you are to others, is what you face in your present and future.

To simplify it even further, how about thinking on it from a logical point of view.

It’s a simple case of cause and effect.

You will get affected by the very same of what you cause in the first place.

Now, when you think of it from that perspective, it isn’t that difficult to fathom, right?

What do you think?

Put good in the world and you shall receive good as well.

Be kind to others and you shall receive kindness as well.

Do good deeds for others and good deeds shall happen to you as well.

Not that we are having any expectations from the deeds in the first place, when it comes from a good heart, but to understand karma, we can think of the above statements to understand it better.

Why it doesn’t work out?

Why it doesn’t work out?

Whenever we try something new, we often wonder why it doesn’t work out.

Where was the problem?

What did we do wrong?

Usually, it applies to the changes we make in our life, the habits we try to instil, the choices we make for our life.

So, why doesn’t it work out then?

It boils down to two reasons, either or, you decide which one is right for you.

A. Trying too many things at once

We either try too many things altogether, at once, and end up thinking why one particular thing or all of them didn’t work out, without thinking that we never put our focus onto just one thing and concentrated on it and improved at it.

It was juggling too much, all at once, that’s why it didn’t work out.

But what if you did only one thing and it still didn’t work out.

Where there could be various reasons attached to this, a major one is,

B. Wanting quick results

In a quest to reach the end of the line, the destination, to know the outcome, you took steps and the process was such that you wanted quick results. In such a quest, you could never process the journey, understand it and improve at it.

Apply each of the situations to your problem and think why it didn’t work out.

Emotional Vocabulary

Emotional Vocabulary

RTH24 - Blog Banners (587)

We, individually, all of us have a lot of issues, in life, even on a day-to-day basis. However, those issues get aggravated because of a lack of our vocabulary.

Our mind is powering through the words we think, the words we speak and how we describe our emotions, our feelings, the mind will start thinking in that way.

Because of a lack of vocabulary skills, for example, when we have to describe how our day went, we typically address our emotions as ‘good’, ‘bad’, ‘okay’, or ‘meh’.

Not being able to address our emotions properly, we ourselves have no clarity of how we feel and we end up with a different emotion altogether, thinking that’s how we feel at the moment.

I first understood this from Jay Shetty and then ended up digging up more into this. Harvard has done a ton of research on this topic, you can check out one of them here.

Said that, have a look at this chart below. The number of emotion variants that exist in each category, and how we can feel a bunch of emotions throughout the day and we never even end up realizing them.

Here’s another one, just to give you more clarity, you can understand them, learn them, learn to acknowledge your feelings in a better way through these charts.

You can dig a little deeper yourself, just for Emotional Vocabulary on Google and study the research done on this.

You’ll thus get more clarity and a better understanding of how you feel, and what you can do to change or address that emotion of that moment.

How do you express yourself?

How do you express yourself?

RTH24 - Blog Banners (583)

How do you express yourself, your voice, is exactly the question that you should ask yourself and should probably know the answer as well.

Whether its your thoughts, or your feelings or your opinions, when you express yourself through an outlet, you then get more clarity, you’re able to streamline your path, you’re able to understand your thoughts and feelings better than before.

That outlet could be in the form of anything.

If you want to keep everything to yourself, which is totally fine, you can journalize everything, write in a diary, record your thoughts, or even film it for yourself.

If you feel like talking to someone, you can talk to your friends and family, whoever you feel comfortable with, share your inner self with them.

If you’re comfortable with putting yourself, out there in the public eye, you can then do a blog and write and share everything, if you find your comfort in writing. If you feel secure with your voice, then a podcast is a possibility or you can take a step further, and then do a video as well.

In any form, you’re able to get out of your comfort zone, and even look at everything that’s going on inside you from a different perspective, from a third eye.

When you express yourself, when you let out everything, then you’re able to know everything that’s going on within you.

Just express yourself.

The value of ‘Validations’

The value of ‘Validations’

We do things to get ourselves validated.

We workout to get validated for a good body.

We buy something to get validated for the coolness or the popularity factor.

We create to get validated for a good outcome.

We give to get validated for the gesture.

These are just examples, but everywhere you look, there we are, just seeking external validations for everything.

What is the value of these validations?

What do we gain?

Does it improve our lives in a meaningful manner?

Or rather isn’t it a mirage that makes us think we’re doing something valuable whereas we weren’t because our intentions were misaligned.

The voices around you make you think that you need to do something, to get a validation from others, so you can stand out, so you can be cool, so you can be different.

And in such a pursuit, you end up doing what everyone else is doing.

Instead, why not get a validation from yourself?

Why not workout to be healthy for yourself?

Why not buy something because you really needed it or because you really liked it for yourself?

Why not create something because you love creating?

Why not just give because you wanted to?

When your intent is right, you don’t need a validation from anyone, which doesn’t even mean anything.

Wouldn’t you rather be satisfied with your own decisions rather than seeking happiness from other people’s opinions of your decisions?

Expectations are the Worst

Expectations are the Worst

Don’t you agree that expectations are the worst?

Whether the other individual is close to us or not, in our mind, we have framed some kind of expectation from that other individual.

Irrespective of the fact that we have provided something of value to that individual or not.

We still expect.

Firstly, when you gave with an expectation, that means your motive wasn’t pure, but one with intent for yourself.

Secondly, what is it with people thinking something will just be handed over to them?

Whether it is someone’s time, whether it is to pick their brains on something, or whether it is asking something for free.

And every time we expect, it’s faced with disappointments.

Disappointments for yourself.

Because we were the one with undeserving expectations.

And yet, we don’t lose hope and we start with the expectations again.

Such is human nature.

Wouldn’t it be better to understand that no one owes us anything?

Wouldn’t it be better to understand that you’d rather give something of value with no malicious intent?

Wouldn’t it be better to ask than to expect?

4 Questions to Make more Time in your Life

4 Questions to Make more Time in your Life

Blog #573 - 4 Questions to make more time in your life

Time is something that you cannot control, it runs by with you running behind it.

How many times does it happen that you have to cancel or postpone one or more of your tasks onto the next day?

How much can you even fit in a day?

You can never have enough time for anything, but rather, you have to make time for it.

Easier said than done, right?

How about you ask yourself four questions that will help you make time for yourself?

Ask yourself
– what’s taking most of your time,
– where are you investing it,
– where are you wasting it, and
– where can you save it.

Make a note of these questions, write down everything that you do in your day and then bifurcate them in these factors.

Accordingly, when you’re able to prioritize your day, you can then make time for everything you want.

Scheduling and sticking to that schedule is key.

Choose whom you Follow carefully

Choose whom you Follow carefully

With the internet at its current stage, it has also allowed a good number of voices to be present at the various social media platforms available.

As the audience, people have a ton of information available at the reach of their hands and they have the option to choose who they get this information from.

At such a stage, if you aren’t aware of your choices, there are people who can take advantage of your attention and try to sell you something, which you either didn’t want in the first place, or information that could be freely available elsewhere.

One person’s course is another’s free content.

When you use any of the social media platforms, as a consumer, you must become aware of what you consume, whom you follow and what appears on your feeds.

Understand the level of content that is being provided to you, either on a free basis or on a paid basis and the authenticity of it.

Overall, choose who you follow carefully.

Would you be aware of something or be in ignorance of it?

Would you be aware of something or be in ignorance of it?

If you had a choice, would you become aware of something or rather be in ignorance of it?

Is that question too complicated or confusing?

Let me explain it a bit further.

In any area of your life, there are moments – whether through your own mistakes, or through someone’s advice, or through external learning, when you get the chance to be aware of something?

Something that you were doing wrong, or something you didn’t know about – now there’s a moment when you can learn about it and implement it to your life.

The second option is to ignore it.

Let it be as it is.

By ignoring it, you choose to not learn something new, you choose to not improve at that certain something, you choose to not implement it in your life.

Let me ask you again, when such a moment arises, would you become aware of something or be in ignorance or it?

If this doesn’t happen, then what?

If this doesn’t happen, then what?

Does this happen frequently to you as well where you end up thinking about an alternative scenario if the existing thing didn’t work out?

You don’t know the outcome of this existing scenario yet.

However, in your mind, you’ve already thought that if this doesn’t work out, let me think about an alternative scenario, or a back-up plan.

Instead of living in the moment, instead of enjoying the process, instead of being patient and waiting it out, you decide to think of this thing already failing.

Why?

Why such a thought process?

Why not have trust and confidence in this existing thing and patiently wait to check the outcome?

Why jump on to the next thing already?

When you live like this, then you’re never able to be in the current scenario, but always thinking about what’s next, what else, and be in the future than in the present.

Do you want to continue to live your life’s moments in such manner?

Interconnection between your personal and professional life

Interconnection between your personal and professional life

Would you agree that your personal life and your professional life are interconnected?

Your personal life has an impact on your professional life and vice versa as well.

To be more precise, your lifestyle, your habits, your rituals impact your goals and your work. Moreover, how you work, how much you work, how you handle your work has an impact on your life, emotionally and mentally.

If you didn’t agree before, would you agree now that both the lives are interconnected?

When you better your personal life, then your professional life also gets better.

When you work on your personal habits, you then have the ability to work on your work habits as well.

When you change how you think about yourself, the perspective towards your colleagues, your team, your company also changes.

Everything is connected.

Work on one area of your life and the other area has its impact.

How does it all start though?

How can you work on all of this?

It all starts with your own mindset.

Improve yourself, improve everyone around you, improve your surroundings – it’s all a cyclical process.

A cyclical process where you take one step at a time, be patient and work on everything about yourself and let it impact your life for good.

Ignorance is Easy

Ignorance is Easy

It’s easy to ignore, it’s easy to say that this isn’t for me, it’s easy to say that this doesn’t suit me.

Those are the easy answers.

What’s difficult is to understand this ignorance.

Understand that you have limited knowledge, you don’t have all the pieces of the puzzle.

That you’re probably ignoring because you’re in your comfort zone and you don’t have to do much in that place.

Anything else outside of that will require efforts.

So why not just ignore and say this isn’t for me?

If you experiment, you try it out, and then you say it isn’t for me, makes sense.

That says you’re ready to try and evolve and keep on improving.

Those are the difficult steps that give you better outputs.

Easy steps start from ignorance.

Whether you’re ignoring or you’re ready to try, depends on you and your mindset.

In the end, it affects your life and no one else’s.

Living Upside-down for a Day

Living Upside-down for a Day

We live a life of routine, schedules and habits.

Don’t we?

Every day has a certain routine, there are certain habits that you repeat every day, every hour.

And that’s how life is.

A bunch of habits and routine that guides you on the path you’re walking.

However, no matter how much you love it, you love the process, you love the journey, but sometimes you need change.

Sometimes you feel if something could be different.

And that’s where living upside-down for a day comes in.

Not literally upside-down, of course.

But overturning your day, a specific day, completely different than the rest of the days.

The rest of the days, you pursue your dreams, your goals, you live your habits and your schedule.

But this one day, you do none of it. You don’t do any of those routines. You let go of your habits (most of them, at least).

Such a day gives you a different aspect to life, a different glimpse of it.

You get some change, and you then become ready to bounce back.

This day could come once a week, once a fortnight or once a month.

It’s up to you to decide that.

Based on your energy levels, based on how long and how much can you push yourself without feeling burnt out.

But definitely try it out.

Live upside-down for a day.

Just not literally.

What can you see?

What can you see?

In life, we only take steps towards those things which we can see.

The usual thinking is, if we can see it, that means its real and we have to do something about it.

If you get scratched on your body, you’ll put an ailment on it.

If your car gets scratched, you’ll take it to the car center.

But, what about those things that you can’t see?

What about the damage to the body with foods that aren’t beneficial to it (at all), but just has a feel good factor for the moment and you can’t see the damage it is doing to you, short-term and long-term? Or even with not working out because of which right from the movement to the blood vessels to the hormones, everything gets affected?

What else can’t you see?

Is there something more damaging that we are not able to see through our eyes?

How about the damage to our minds with negative/ polluting/ judgemental thoughts that affect our own mind and take away more from us?

Just because we can’t see the affect of these things through our own eyes, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen, right?

Internally, the process is happening, it’s just that only when something substantial happens then we realize the effect of something we did to then realize, “Oh, how I wish I could’ve seen that sooner?”

Let’s start noticing the things you can’t see and then start working on it.

You decide your pace!

You decide your pace!

When it comes to personal decisions or professional decisions, when it is about your life, then it is you who decides your pace.

No one else, no one can.

No one has or can have that control.

Whether it is to walk or jog or sprint or even to catch your breath, you decide your pace.

That decision is completely up to you.

That is what your journey is about.

And when you decide your pace, you are accountable for whatever happens.

You could sprint and get tired in a while and your plan may not work out.

You could jog and sprint in between and jog again, be strategic with your process.

Or you could even wait for a while and catch your breath, not worrying about others’ jogs and sprints.

When this happens, irrespective of whatever happens in the future, you know that you had taken that decision which led to this. You decided the pace.

It could have been a hasty decision or it could be a well-planned decision, you may never know until the outcome is out.

However, irrespective of the outcome, that choice of pace will decide the now. It will decide how you operate now and whether you’re satisfied in the now or not.

The purpose of this blog!

The purpose of this blog!

With the blog now approaching the big number of 500, and if you’re an avid reader of it, or even if you’re new to it, if you see the pattern, you’ll find a whole lot of value in it, and at the same time, you’ll find all the answers to life you never thought to ask.

Walking on this path of self-improvement and growth, that’s what it does to you when you’re obsessed with the process. You notice patterns, you observe people, you think randomly, and you ask the atypical questions.

Said that, even though so much efforts and time is put into each post, with a simple hope that reading it might change something for someone out there, however, I have never officially mentioned anything about the purpose of this blog.

Why do I write it daily and why do I even write one?

Well, simply put, the blog helps me think beyond my random thoughts on the topics I write about, writing them helps me go deeper into a topic and in that process, sometimes something so profound comes out that gives me that tick that it is definitely going to provide a different kind of a value out there, to someone who’s reading it and if I may hope so, change their life or their thought structure for the better.

Why a blog? Well, because, one, it has a higher reach to a global audience, anything can be searched at any point of time, as per the user, they’re not seeing something when I want them to (as in the case of social media), but in their time of need, when they search about something and that particular blog of that topic pops up and gives them that perspective they were looking for.

More importantly, most of the times, I also write with this intention that the topic I’m writing about will make you think about it, will make you question it and then it is you who will have to think of the answer too. And that process is so beautiful, because then, with this information, you’re able to think what is right for you, not for someone else.

Why daily? Not to complicate this answer, if I would have written this weekly or monthly, I wouldn’t have been able to think half or even 70% of the content that I’ve written. Only because of my passion towards it, and the fact that it is daily, can I then think so much into it, delve into different topics, that sometimes could be obvious and sometimes we may have not questioned at all.

That, all of that, is what I think is the purpose of my blog.

Adapt Yourself!

Adapt Yourself!

Things never go according to plan!

There’s known and unforeseen circumstances that can change the trajectory of your plan!

The key is to adapt yourself to these situations!

Of course there’s no right way, but there’s no wrong way either!

You learn, you practice, you make mistakes, you evolve and eventually learn how to adapt yourself according to the circumstance at hand.

The bottom line is to adapt yourself!

Want vs Should

Want vs Should

The biggest battle that every individual goes through, without even realising it is this…

The battle of Want vs Should.

What you want vs What you should.

What it also means is what’s right for you vs what you would like to happen irrespective of it being right or wrong for you.

For example, you should exercise, but at this moment, you want to continue scrolling on your phone or go out and socialise or watch something on your laptop.

You should eat right and not have the unhealthy processed stuff that doesn’t benefit the body, however at this time, you want to have the packet of chips or have some cookies because you feel hungry right now.

Another example is, based on what’s right for you, you should schedule an hour or so everyday to read or learn something new, but because of whatever reason, you want to use that time to consume something entertaining and push the should to later.

As you’d notice with these micro examples of life, what usually happens is our wants take over our shoulds, and every time we push the should, we basically postpone what’s right for you and what you should actually do for yourself, in order to be better, in order to grow, in order to improve yourself.

The ‘what we want’ basically becomes a quicker, lazier way of making decisions which temporarily makes you satisfied vs taking the efforts and doing ‘what you should’ because that would take more out of you.

There are hundreds of examples of ‘want vs should’ which, if one reads, would be like a pin to the heart because that would make you realise the things that you do wrong, irrespective of knowing the outcome of it.

Every time, anything is put under this perspective, it’s an eye-opener for someone who would then probably understand what they should do vs what they want to do.

This applies to micro as well as macro situations in life, it’s only up to you to choose when you’d like to apply it and whether you choose to be on that path or not.

The voice leads to conclusion!

The voice leads to conclusion!

Most of the times, with most of our situations in life, we often jump to conclusions without even trying.

The conclusions that doing something would result in a certain way.

The conclusions that choosing another path has an outcome of a certain kind.

Now, you, personally haven’t tried and experimented with any of this!

Then, where do these conclusions come from?

There’s a voice within you that speaks of these conclusions!

That constantly speaks that why try this when you can avoid that unnecessary outcome.

Whose voice is that though?

Here’s what happens… usually…

One, we never know about the unnecessary outcome because its just one side of the coin and you never know until you try. You cannot avoid every situation because of the outcome.

Secondly, and more importantly, that voice we think is ours, isn’t actually ours.

Let me explain!

The voice inside your head is an amalgamation of everything you’ve been taught, every conversation you’ve had and every person you’ve met.

Quite often, what people do themselves and what they tell you forms into this voice in your head.

So, when this voice speaks to you, it isn’t truly yours or what you want, but people’s opinions and what they’d think when you do something is what’s embedded into this voice in your head.

Now this voice is what ultimately and unfortunately, leads you to these conclusions.

Are you carrying a heavy backpack?

Are you carrying a heavy backpack?

I have two questions for you.

Are you carrying a backpack?

And

How heavy is it?

How about two more questions?

Do you have past memories, past worries, opinions and judgments troubling you?

Is that causing the heaviness?

Anything of the past that we are holding on to forms into this backpack that we have to carry throughout.

Two things happen here…

A. The more you hold on to, the heavier it becomes. That results into you slowing down and not being able to move forward as you’d want.

B. Until you don’t realise you’re carrying this backpack, you won’t be able to get rid of it.

Before you move on, ask yourself these questions, just wonder about them for a minute because this one minute could be changing your life.

Empathy is the answer!

Empathy is the answer!

When you’re able to empathise with another person,
their perspective,
their situation,
their problems

you not only broaden your relationship with the people around you;

But you also open your mind to more possibilities and more opportunities.

And that helps you win not only in your personal life but your professional life as well.

Empathy is always the answer.

“Empathy has got me so much more, so much farther in not only my life, but in my career.” – Ryan Reynolds

You chose this!

You chose this!

Whenever you are in doubt or if something feels out of sorts and you wonder why…

Know that you chose the path you’re currently on.

Know that you chose to be the person you are.

Know that you chose to have the emotions and feelings you have right now.

Know that you chose all of this.

It all starts with being accountable of your own choices and own doings.

When you accept accountability of your decisions, then you realize it is you who has the power to also change something if you don’t like it.

You also realize that you’re in control of your life and it is you who chooses everything and anything about yourself, past, present and future.

Let your light shine!

Let your light shine!

All of us, yes all of us, have a light within us.

A light that shines around us, spreading the rays on to people around us.

The brighter the light, the more people it impacts!

However, there’s a catch too.

How dimmer or brighter the light is also depends on you, your mind, body and soul.

Nonetheless, the bottom line is, everyone has a light within them.

You only have to allow it to shine and let it impact others.

In a good way.

When you do so, you will try to make sure that the light shines brighter than usual.

And in that path, you will ensure how to make that light shine brighter and ultimately, make yourself better too.

What works?

What works?

What works for someone else might not work for me.

What works for me might not work for you.

The problem lies where we do something just because it worked for someone else.

What we fail to realize is that everyone’s paths are different, journeys are different, patterns are different.

Here in comes self-awareness.

When you become aware about yourself, you realize what truly works for you and what doesn’t too.

Then comes experimentations. Experiment with everything and know what works for you and what doesn’t.

It is then when you have tried everything and now know what works for you.

If I can change, anyone can.

If I can change, anyone can.

What I say or share may seem difficult or confusing or even impossible,

however what I want you to know is this…

I was in that same place

having those same thoughts

that this kind of a change is beyond me.

What did I do then?

Well…

I knew I wanted to take that first step to taste that new experience.

I had seen the results, so even though the start was difficult, I knew what the process looked like.

Once I took that first step, it was just a whole new world for me.

Walking upon this path of self growth and self improvement.

What I want you to know is this…

If I can change, anyone can and I’ll try my best to make you aware of this path!

The choice to walk upon it will always be yours though!

Then vs Now – What’s changed over time?

Then vs Now – What’s changed over time?

In this quest of understanding and becoming self aware about who I am, what my voice is, what my strengths and weaknesses are, how my thoughts amd actions affect me and others around me, how my habits affect me, I was in a retrospective mode thinking about all of these things.

Not just that, but who I was before, who I am now, the old me, the new me, how I have been able to pin point certain areas of my life that needed a change and then worked on it and yet, there’s so much more to work on.

This is the journey of self-improvement and everyday I’m grateful that I get to improve myself or at least become aware of what I need to improve one bit at a time.

However, doing just that made me create this list of my THEN vs NOW and what’s changed me over time.

Why am I sharing this with you?

Well, the more I learn, the more I want to share.

Not just my personal growth. But, how you can grow too, how you can improve too, how you can change your life too.

A list of such kind helps in showing that if I can change, then you can change too and if this can inspire you to take a step in that direction, then why not?

Self!

Self!

Self-growth, Self-improvement, Self-care, why is the word ‘Self’ added here?

What is the point that is being tried to communicate to you?

Until you don’t care about yourself, how will you take care of others around you?

Until you don’t improve yourself, how will you improve the life of others around you?

Until you don’t grow yourself, how will that growth happen outside and around you?

It all starts with you!

SELF.

The starting point is the only point where you have to become selfish in order to become selfless.

In order to serve others.

In order to have an impact on others.

In order to create change.

Self – that’s where it begins.

Answer me this question

For I don’t know the answer myself

I want to change

But I don’t know who will bring this change

The mirror says

Look within me

For I always showed you the answer

It is you alone

Who can bring change

For no one else has the power to do so
